My 30th Birthday present!

23 Aug

This year it was the big one. The first milestone after you hit 21, the big 3-0. And for that I got very “mature” gifts (that I requested, of course), a sewing machine from the padres, and sewing classes from the Rog. I am super excited about both and can’t wait to get started. So many projects, so little time. First on the agenda is curtains for the bedroom, along with an upholstered headboard. After that who knows what I’ll start sewing.

Here are a few pics of the new beauty!

Here are some remnant fabrics I bought the other day. The pink/peach on the bottom is an Italian linen, not sure if pillows are going to be made or something for me to wear… Decisions, decisions.

I start class on September 11, so we will see how the first class goes! They are evening classes on Saturday nights, that what people in their 30′s do right? Totally JK

I’ll post some pics of the projects once they are complete!

Fabric Seach (part trois)

26 Apr

I think the search has come to a close. I finally feel like I have decided on a fabric and am happy with the choice.

Now it’s time for the great reveal….

Da dada daaaaa….

A white leather, but not leather, pleather, I believe. I found it at Joann’s fabric. I think it is the best option and now that we’re moving, the chairs are moving to the office rather than the living room, which has a more mid-century feel. I am so excited and once we move, I’m going to buy the fabric and began the reupholster project! Which, of course, I’ll keep you updated, along the way, promise.

What do y’all think? Good choice?

Here are some images I have been saving for inspiration that are similar to my chairs.

Fabric Search (part deux)

17 Mar

The fabric search has resumed. I was trying to take a break from it and maybe the perfect fabric would come to me, but alas, not so much!

So, today I found this cute chevron pattern from Premier Fabrics. I really am liking the black and white, but there is also this pretty blue/natural.

The great thing about these are that they are only $7.99/yd., compared to the fabric I have looked at, $25/yd., this is a steal! Also, I can change this if I get sick of it (not that I ever would,) where as the others were much more of an investment. I will keep you posted on my decision!

New Skirt for my Printer Cart

23 Feb

So I saw this post from Little Green Notebook a few weeks ago and decided to try it on my old white boring printer cart. I figured it would be a good test run and if that was a success I would continue and make a pretty cover for my Cali girl’s kennel.

I went to Joann’s Fabric and got this great heavy canvas like gray fabric ($6.99/yd.) Also, I bought blue ribbon for detail (I’ll post more pictures of the fabric and ribbon later) and the fabric glue.

Patience is the keyword in this project. It only took about an hour and a half to create but I definitely had to not get in a hurry. Since I do not cut the straightest edges I had to make sure to measure the middle of the panel, rather than 2 inches on one side or other because I could be a 1/4 inch off sometimes. Also, when I measured it, it was on wood floors, well I moved it into my carpeted bedroom and now it is about and 1 inch too long. So definitely have it where you want it before you measure.

Well I think it was a good learning lesson and I will be off to Joann’s this weekend to get more fabric for Cali’s kennel.

Hope you enjoyed and definitely let me know if you have any questions!

Fabric Search 2010!

19 Jan

So I have a dilemma, almost a year ago, I bought these retro, chrome chairs from Craigslist. Currently, they have this sea-foam green velvet fabric on them. It is worn and really just not that pretty. Also, these chairs are apparently supercharged with positive energy (see email below.) Now, I am on the hunt to find the perfect fabric for them and I have the added pressure of not only trying to please the physical world, but now I have to worry about the spiritual world, as well!

original chairs (before)

Email from Craigslist Seller after buying them:
“The Chairs to recently belonged to a spiritual master.
He gave awareness sessions in those chairs so they are supercharged with goodness and loving inquiry. I can tell they are going to a good home, I’m so glad. I was happy to share some cheer with you.”

On to part two of the saga… I took a class over at Spruce last summer and reupholstered one with a green woven fabric (I procrastinated on finding fabric and had to choose only what was in stock, which was my fault.) Needless to say, I am not in love with the fabric and it was not that big of a leap from the original fabric. I have decided I want to reupholster the chairs again with some awesome fabric that would make them stand out and be the supercharged, spiritual masters they are!

I have scoured the web and fabric stores for months, but nothing ever seems right once I take the fabric home and look at it. For example:

blue velvet

purple, green, pink pattern

purple, green, pink pattern

celtic print raspberry/choco

These fabrics are from Calico Corner. Do they jump out to anyone and say this is it? I think my fave is the middle one, but then again I like them all, yet I don’t know if they’re right for the chairs!

Now this is where I need your help. Please (PLEASE) help me find the most fitting fabric for them. I will try to post all the fabrics and inspiration pieces on here so you can see my thought process.

And so it begins…
