So we will be taking the plunge soon to create our own upholstered headboard. Above are a few good tutorials on how to do one.

The white leather headboard above is what we want but downsized a bit.

Also, of course, we won’t be using leather, b/c that kinda just throws the frugal aspect of diy project that I wanted to accomplish. We will probably substitute it for a white canvas or if we can find a good deal on velvet. I will definitely take pics and post once we decided to actually tackle this project. We have so many other little side projects underway, so it might be another month or so till then. Oh boy!

White Duvet and Shams

1 Aug

ZGallerie

I am convinced, the hardest thing to find is white bedding! Rog and I have been scouring stores for the past two months looking for a white duvet cover and shams, that is not a damask stripe! They have ample coverlets and comforters, but not duvet covers! It is nearly impossible to find! Finally, as I strolled past ZGallerie the other night on my way to dinner, this little angel popped out from the store window. I want it! It is so pretty, the subtle damask (not damask STRIPE) pattern would be perfect for the bedroom. Now to decide if we want to swing the $150 price tag, which really isn’t bad for the duvet cover and 2 shams! I will keep you posted on the outcome of my little treasure find!

Flip!

4 May

I love walking around West Elm w/ Cali girl in tow (they allow dogs!!!) and getting ideas for  our new place. Well I ended up buying, actually Roger had to buy it b/c I didn’t have my wallet with me, wah wah… Anyway, we ended up getting “Flip! for decorating”.

I think it has some great tips on how to design any room in the house and to arrange. She goes through each room (living, dining, bedroom, and family) step by step on arrangement, paint color, hanging pictures, curtains, etc…

Oh and yes it is a flip book, too!

Here is another post from Design-Milk about this fantastic book.

So depressing that I’m over here putting stuff away and packing rather than decorating. Ahhhh a little over 2 weeks to go!

I have been loving me some Jessica Hische and her designs.

She designs the “Drop Cap Daily,” which I mentioned here. She also, does a lot of other amazing work.

I am inspired! Here are a few little designs I was practicing with.

Kate & Jason’s wedding invitation preview

28 Apr

Hi all

Kate & Jason’s invitations are complete and mailed, so I thought it was time to show them to y’all!

Hope you enjoy. I still have Thank You’s, place cards, menus, and table numbers to design. I’ll post those after the wedding.

I am also working on a  new invitation for my friend in Chicago. Once those are sent out I’ll post on here, too!

Dollar Fun at Michael’s

27 Apr

I love Michael’s, especially because you can cute things like this for only $1 each!

Because who can ever have enough notepads, right? :D

I also got some cute grey and yellow floral note cards. Plus, they always have coupons for 40% off or more. Yay, Michaels.

Fabric Seach (part trois)

26 Apr

I think the search has come to a close. I finally feel like I have decided on a fabric and am happy with the choice.

Now it’s time for the great reveal….

Da dada daaaaa….

A white leather, but not leather, pleather, I believe. I found it at Joann’s fabric. I think it is the best option and now that we’re moving, the chairs are moving to the office rather than the living room, which has a more mid-century feel. I am so excited and once we move, I’m going to buy the fabric and began the reupholster project! Which, of course, I’ll keep you updated, along the way, promise.

What do y’all think? Good choice?

Here are some images I have been saving for inspiration that are similar to my chairs.

New digs around the corner!

25 Apr

So Rogelio and I got a new place and I can’t wait to move! We start the lease on the 15th of May, but aren’t moving till the last weekend of the month. We have lots of  to do before we move in like painting and cleaning.

Here are some floor plans of the bedroom, office, and living/dining room I created (not to scale.)

The one down fall is that there is not a lot of storage. We are going to have to be very organized and streamlined, so I am going through my stuff right now and trying to get rid of as much as possible, which unfortunately means clothes, too.

Here are a few pics of the place.

We are deciding on paint colors right now, but I think we’ll be going with a light grey for the office and living/dining, and bright clean white for the bathroom and kitchen, since they have the original blue and yellow tiles. The bedroom is going to be a deep rich dark blue and have white and dark wood stain with bronze accents. I’ll definitely post pictures as we progress!

Travel Time!

29 Mar

We are driving out west, boys & girls (hopefully, not the route pictured above!) I have not really explored much that way, except the staples, L.A., Las Vegas, San Fran, but that is about it. I have never been to the Southwest (Disclaimer: apparently I have been when I was ~3 yrs old, but I have absolutely no memory whatsoever from this excursion, so it doesn’t count in my book.)

Anyway, We are heading to Santa Fe, NM for 3-4 days and I am super excited. Here are a few things I have been reading about Santa Fe.

NYT article on Santa Fe:

National Geographic Travel

Great images and an article with great to-dos from National Geographic (like you would expect anything less)

I am definitely going to have to stop by “Todos Santos Chocolates and Confections.” Looks amazingly yummy!

I will post some pics after we get back from our adventures!
